Daylight saving
Dubai does not observe daylight saving — this offset is fixed all year. Mumbai does not observe daylight saving — this offset is fixed all year.
This pair is not a whole number of hours apart
The offset between these two cities includes a half-hour component, so a meeting scheduled on the hour in one city always falls on the half hour in the other. Calendar software handles this correctly, but people converting in their heads routinely get it wrong by thirty minutes.
A genuinely fixed offset
Neither city observes daylight saving, so the difference between them is the same on every day of the year. This is the easy case: a recurring meeting booked once will remain correct indefinitely, and no seasonal adjustment is ever required.
Scheduling across this corridor
The Gulf and South Asia are close neighbours in time — a matter of an hour or two — and neither region observes daylight saving, so the relationship between them never changes. The working days overlap almost completely, which is why so much of India's outsourcing and finance work routes through Dubai. The only subtlety is the half-hour offset on the Indian side, which puts the two cities at odd times relative to each other.
About Dubai
Dubai holds a fixed offset year-round with no daylight saving. The working week is the significant scheduling factor rather than the clock: the UAE moved to a Monday-to-Friday week with a half-day Friday in 2022, so Friday afternoons are effectively unavailable. Its position between Europe and Asia makes it one of the few cities with a workable overlap in both directions.
About Mumbai
Mumbai runs on India Standard Time, which is offset from UTC by five and a half hours — one of a small number of zones on a half-hour boundary. India has a single timezone despite spanning a considerable east-west distance, and it does not observe daylight saving, so the offset is fixed permanently. Any meeting booked on the hour elsewhere lands on the half hour here.
