Daylight saving
Dubai does not observe daylight saving — this offset is fixed all year. New York next moves its clocks back on 1 November 2026, to UTC−5.
Only one side changes its clocks
New York observes daylight saving and Dubai does not. The difference between these two cities is therefore not constant — it changes twice a year, entirely because of the New York side. A recurring meeting fixed to local time in Dubai will appear to move by an hour in New York, and vice versa.
Scheduling across this corridor
The Gulf and the eastern Mediterranean are far enough ahead of North America that the overlap sits at the very start of the American day and the very end of theirs. Late afternoon in Dubai or Istanbul meets the American morning, and that is essentially the only window. Since neither the UAE nor Turkey changes its clocks, the entire seasonal movement comes from the North American side.
About Dubai
Dubai holds a fixed offset year-round with no daylight saving. The working week is the significant scheduling factor rather than the clock: the UAE moved to a Monday-to-Friday week with a half-day Friday in 2022, so Friday afternoons are effectively unavailable. Its position between Europe and Asia makes it one of the few cities with a workable overlap in both directions.
About New York
New York is the reference clock for North American business scheduling — when a US company says "9am ET" without qualification, this is the zone they mean. It observes daylight saving from the second Sunday in March to the first Sunday in November, which is three weeks longer than the European season and the source of the annual transatlantic confusion. The working day starts early by European standards and calls before 9am local are common.
