Daylight saving
London next moves its clocks back on 25 October 2026, to UTC+0. São Paulo does not observe daylight saving — this offset is fixed all year.
Only one side changes its clocks
London observes daylight saving and São Paulo does not. The difference between these two cities is therefore not constant — it changes twice a year, entirely because of the London side. A recurring meeting fixed to local time in São Paulo will appear to move by an hour in London, and vice versa.
Scheduling across this corridor
Europe and South America have a workable afternoon-to-afternoon overlap, with Brazil running a few hours behind Western Europe. Brazil dropped daylight saving in 2019 while Europe kept it, so the gap changes by an hour between European summer and winter. This is the single most common cause of missed calls on this corridor: the offset people memorised during one season is wrong in the other.
About London
London is the practical reference point for global scheduling, sitting at UTC in winter and an hour ahead of it in summer. That is precisely why UTC and London time are not the same thing for most of the year, and why "GMT" used loosely between April and October is usually wrong. British Summer Time runs from the last Sunday in March to the last Sunday in October, on the EU schedule rather than the American one.
About São Paulo
São Paulo dropped daylight saving in 2019 after decades of observing it, and now holds a fixed offset all year. Brazilian business hours run late by northern standards, with meetings after 6pm local unremarkable. Because Brazil no longer shifts while Europe and North America do, the gap to both changes twice a year.
