London to Sydney: time difference and meeting times

Everything you need to schedule between London and Sydney — the current offset, both cities' daylight saving dates, and the hour-by-hour overlap of their working days.

Sydney is 9 hours ahead of London

Partial overlap only. There is no hour when both cities are inside core working hours. Both sides are awake and available at 05:00–11:00 UTC, but at least one of them is in the early morning or the evening. That is the realistic window for this pair.

Daylight saving

London next moves its clocks back on 25 October 2026, to UTC+0. Sydney next moves its clocks forward on 4 October 2026, to UTC+11.

Opposite daylight saving seasons

Both cities change their clocks, but in opposite directions — one is entering summer time as the other leaves it. The gap between them therefore swings across a wider range over the year than a single clock change would produce. Pin recurring meetings to UTC; local time on either side will drift.

Scheduling across this corridor

This is the hardest corridor in regular commercial use. Europe and Oceania are close to twelve hours apart, and because their daylight saving runs in opposite directions the gap moves in both directions across the year. There is no hour at which both sides are comfortably at work. The realistic options are a very early European morning against a late Australian evening, or the reverse, and teams that sustain this corridor almost always rotate the burden rather than fixing a single slot.

About London

London is the practical reference point for global scheduling, sitting at UTC in winter and an hour ahead of it in summer. That is precisely why UTC and London time are not the same thing for most of the year, and why "GMT" used loosely between April and October is usually wrong. British Summer Time runs from the last Sunday in March to the last Sunday in October, on the EU schedule rather than the American one.

About Sydney

Sydney observes daylight saving on the southern-hemisphere schedule, moving forward in October and back in April — the opposite of the northern hemisphere. For part of the year the two hemispheres are both on summer time, and the gap between Sydney and Europe or North America changes twice as much across the year as people expect. Australia is not a single timezone: the eastern states, South Australia and Western Australia all differ, and not all of them observe daylight saving.
